Can You Track Cargo Without an AWB Number?
Losing or not receiving your 11-digit Air Waybill (AWB) number can make tracking cargo difficult. Fortunately, there are 4 alternative methods to trace your shipment.
1. Use the Shipper's Reference Number
Many freight forwarders and airlines allow you to search their portals using custom reference numbers, purchase order (PO) numbers, or commercial invoice numbers instead of the AWB prefix.
2. Check Your Booking Reference (PNR)
If you have the airline booking reference code (a 6-character alphanumeric code), you can log into the carrier's cargo desk (such as Emirates SkyCargo or Lufthansa Cargo) to retrieve the associated AWB number.
3. Query the House AWB (HAWB)
If you have the forwarder's HAWB code, contact their customer service desk. They can check their internal consolidation records to find the Master AWB (MAWB) prefix used on the actual flight.
4. Contact the Airport Cargo Terminal Office
If the cargo has arrived at destination and is undergoing customs breakdown (RCF status), terminal operators can search warehouse databases using the consignee company name.
